James StewartJim enjoyed more than 30 years of a rewarding career in the banking industry. His experience and skills in customer service along with his love of people are only part of the reason for his decision to work in the senior home care industry.
Jim and his sister Elaine cared for their mother Ella in the twilight years of her life. Like so many who go through the experience of caring for an elderly parent, Jim gained a great appreciation for both the honor and the hardships of being a caregiver for a loved one. There was a point when Jim's family realized that as much as they wanted to support Ella living independently in her home, they were going to require caregiving from outside the family. It was the many friends in the months following Ella's passing who requested advice from Jim on how to care for their own aging parents that encouraged Jim to consider working in the home health care industry. Ella Stewart Care is named for Jim's mother, and his work is dedicated to the memory of Ella. |

Elaine Dougherty, BSRNElaine is a registered nurse of 35 years who specialized in Cardiac Care, Hospice-Oncology, Home Care, and more recently in Wound Care. Baltimore Magazine proudly saluted Elaine with the "Excellence in Nursing Award" for being one the region’s top nurses for her extraordinary contributions to healthcare in 2019.
Along with her brother Jim, Elaine cared for her mother Ella in Ella's twilight years. Elaine speaks first about the many memories from those years of caring for her mom that she will always cherish. It was clear to Elaine that the advantages of staying at home for seniors include not just the security and familiarity of living where the family memories took shape, but also because of the likelihood that the home surroundings foster more engaged and focused thinking. In addition, Elaine is an advocate of a 1-on-1 caregiver to patient ratio because of a host of physical health advantages. A 1-on-1 ratio: minimizes exposure to bacteria and viruses; enhances care to avoid aspiration; reduces risk of bedsores; optimizes nutritional and physical status; helps to better maintain proper toileting to optimize skin integrity and reduce the risk of bladder infection. Elaine is confident that most people will want the quality of care for their parents that she was able to give her mother. She is excited about working with Ella Stewart Care because of the professional service she can offer clients as an experienced RN - from the initial Plan of Care to the follow-up assessments and supervision of caregivers. Elaine looks forward to being your nurse with the same loving concern she had for her mom, Ella. |

From the capacity of working in lab research to Information Technology she has refined her motivation for work. What has inspired and stimulated Susan through her career is meaningful humanitarian work and every job experiences she has had that prepared her for her role with Ella Stewart Care.
Susan's mother-in-law, Ella Stewart, was an elegant role model for me until the day she died. Susan shared in the care of her and she witnessed the day-to-day care she received from her caregivers. I think because she knew how much she was loved and supported by everyone in her home, including her caregivers she seamlessly remained the matriarch of our family. That is the dignity with which Ella Stewart Care is founded and what I want for every one of our clients. |
