Introduction

Our final entry in this year's Alzheimer's and Dementia apps series discusses applications meant for the general public at large. While these are not specifically tailored for them, caregivers, patients, and family members may still find them useful or otherwise illuminating.
 
These apps are mostly cross-platform and range from free & educational games that center around dementia, to a low-cost interactive guide to help in preventing Alzheimer's before its onset, to various other apps whose use will help further the research for cures.

Alzheimer's & Dementia Support Apps

Sea Hero Quest

• iOS | Android (Free)
  
• A fun boat navigation game that gathers data for Alzheimer's & dementia-based research during game play.
  

Amyloids

• iOS | Android (Free)
• An educational game devised by Alzheimer's Research UK named after the toxic protein plaque that builds up in the brain during Alzheimer's and based on the battle of scientists to fight against the disease.
  

A Walk Through Dementia

• Android (Free)
• A virtual reality app that will simulate the symptoms experienced by those with Alzheimer's or dementia. Particularly recommended for use with cardboard headsets.

Alzheimer's Disease (MIND)

• iOS | Android ($3.99):
  
• Food suggestions, guidelines, and other interactive tips for following the MIND Diet to help prevent the onset of Alzheimer's
  

Folding@Home

• Android | PC (Free):
• Help researchers at Standford study 'protein folding' (linked to Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, cancer, and a host of other diseases) by allowing them to run complicated calculations using  your cell phone or PC processing power while it's charging or sleeping at night
