Introduction
These smartphone apps are based on the premise that being submersed in an enriched environment with lots of mental stimulation will produce positive brain changes, promote mental health, and improve cognitive & psychological functioning based on neuroplasticity (the brain's ability to remodel nerve cell connections through experience)
In particular these types of games focus on improving memory, problem solving skills, processing speed, increasing overall I.Q., or enhancing other cognitive skills particularly in older adults where some studies have indicated that they can be helpful in preventing age-related memory decline and reducing the risk of dementia by lessening the probability of developing brain plaques associated with Alzheimer’s disease. The smartphone games listed below are amongst the most well received and highly rated across both the Apple iOS & Android platforms. They are mostly available in the form of free trials with further premium content (such as upgrades, access to further games & levels, or monthly subscriptions) available through in app purchases. Introduction
This is the time of year when friends & family tend to gather around the dinner table and when it comes to preparing meals suitable for senior loved ones a few guidelines should be kept in mind.
For seniors who have dentures, missing teeth, or other troubles when it comes to chewing or swallowing, food should be on the softer side and kept in small, bite-sized portions. Whips, creams, mousses, smoothies, and other blended ingredients can be used for those with more severe forms of dysphagia. As many seniors tend to lose aspects of their sense of taste, meals can be compensated by using more seasonings and spices (with salt still being held at a minimum for those who may have high blood pressure). Food meant for older adults who have lessened appetites should also have a high nutritional content to make up for the smaller portions. Here is a sampling of senior appropriate recipes using tastes, ingredients, and styles that are traditionally associated with Thanksgiving and other autumn meals. Recipes

All crafts have a thanksgiving, harvest festival, or autumn theme and do not require high levels of hand dexterity or strength. Feel free to make preparations ahead of time for more intricate parts of the tutorials that may require it (such as hollowing out pumpkins or pre-cutting branches).

Introduction
For many seniors, autumn is a good time of year to enjoy outdoor activities. Temperatures tend to be mild compared to the potential heat waves of summer and have yet to drop to the freezing temperatures that send most people sheltering indoors for the winter. In addition, the seasonal displays of fall foliage and produce harvests make outdoor ventures an additional treat for the eyes.
Here are a sampling of seasonal autumnal activities that are suitable for seniors or others with mobility issues. Additional links to sites within the Maryland area where these events can be enjoyed have also been included.
